Last year BJ and I missed the Game of Thrones expo that came through NYC so this year we were determined to make it happen. Since we are Time Warner customers we got fancy reserved access to it. BJ arranged it all and yesterday morning we arrived promptly at 9:30am. We had NO idea what we were getting into. This wasn’t a come-sit-on-the-Game-of-Thrones, it was a Time Warner Extravaganza.
They gave us a BROCHURE. There were three levels of activities.
We ran into Eli, an old friend from high school. She was working the event and she ended up being our tour guide. Ya’ll, this city is so small.
The “Hallmark Station” was giving out FREE greeting cards WITH POSTAGE. I got like 10. FREE.
We were too busy eating to snap photos but there was also a “Cake Boss Station.” You heard me. Like THE Cake Boss. They were giving out FREE Napoleons and cannolis, and hot chocolate and coffee. For free. We obviously were too thrilled to take photos.
Eli then started us off on our guided tour. First stop- NBC!
We got to take pictures with a Tonight Show host.
AH! The magic of green screen!
Then I got to pretend I was a pirate ship captain.
Don’t mess with me.
There was a live pirate fight.
There was a wall of information about the characters for the new show Black Sails and BJ and I just about died reading the descriptions. “His charisma masks a deep, simmering rage, and a propensity towards breathtaking violence” is the most ludicrous sentence I’ve ever read.
We got to pose in our own skull and crossbones photo.
Then it was time to do commentary for ESPN:
This is definitely going on my reel.
Then it was off to get FREE party nails in the manicurists parlor. It was getting insane. Did I mention this whole thing was free?
They were giving out free nail kits to everyone who participated so BJ got a nail done so I could get an extra. Now that’s love.
Then it was time to become a Viking.
My tooth was perfect for it.
And you should probably watch this video. It might just be the highlight of my acting career.
It was finally Game of Thrones time!
We nerded out looking at all the costumes. I cannot wait for Season 4.
On the throne.
We also got to kick soccer balls? Not sure what this was promoting but BJ and I wanted the FULL experience.
We left the event with goody bags full of ipad stands and headphones, Game of Thrones iphone cases and plush footballs. We’re still not Time Warner fans, we still overpay for their sub-par services, but I have to admit we had fun.
Since we were down on 14th we decided to explore and grab lunch.
We popped into this interesting home design store. They had this contraption called “Chairless” that I had to try.
It works great! Totally supports your back and spine while sitting on the ground. I kind of want one.
We passed this epic dog-walker.
We stopped by The Meadow. We’ve been to their sister store in Portland so we knew we had to pop in and taste the salts.
So much salt!
On a whim we bought Tortilla and Lime and French Toast Chocolates.
Such a unexpected and fun morning with BJ. It helped that we were still waking up and thus totally game to do anything. Why yes I’ll dress up as a Viking and go to war! Of course I want to kick a soccer ball! And then to meander downtown together with no agenda- what a treat! We’ve got to go adventuring more often!
